Anna Secor University of Colorado, Boulder The doctoral dissertation research proposal will provide a case study of Islamist politics and women's roles in an urban Turkish context, Istanbul. The research will construct an urban geography of Istanbul, explore the bases of support for Islamist politics, and investigate women's role in these activities. Census data and personal interviews will be conducted and analyzed using qualitative and quantitative methods in a three-phase structure.
