0504385 Rood The proposed work activity will design and evaluate an innovative system to capture and potentially destroy volatile contaminants based on a relatively new type of adsorbent, activated carbon fiber cloth (ACFC). This material has many desirable properties, including high adsorptive capacity, as well as desirable thermal properties. The other novel element is that it uses microwave radiation to heat the material and desorb the contaminants. Surface properties of the ACFC can also be manipulated by adding or removing functional groups to facilitate desorption depending on the nature of the volatile chemical.
