This grant is to fund student travel to the International Symposium on Computer Architecture (ISCA), which is a premier forum for presenting, discussing and debating new and innovative architectural ideas and techniques for advanced computing and communication systems. This symposium brings together researchers in fields related to processor architecture, compilers, chips and systems, for technical exchange on current areas of architectural challenge. This proposal aims to support this highly regarded conference by obtaining travel support for students in order to defray the costs of attending and participating, with attention to broadening participation and building the technical workforce of the future.
held in Portland, Oregon from June 9 to 13, 2012. The requested and awarded amount of $10,000 were used primarily to cover he lodging expense and part of airfare of attending regular students, disabled students, or parents attending with a child udner the age of one. Those sponsored participants were able to physically attend the main cofnerence, the colocated 8 workshops and 8 tutorials, main keynote speeches, and social events arranged by the organizing committee. During these various events, the students were given many opportunities to personnally interact and connect with the researchers and engineers from both academia and industries working in the areas of computer architecture, microprocessor designs, system design, and software. This whole program successfully increased the participation, provoked brainstorming of the latest research observation and new ideas, inspired in-depth technical discussion, and substantially enhanced the visibility for the research of sponsored students and their research advisors. It also sets an outstanding exemplary for other mian venues of science and technology research.
