This award by the Chemistry Division supports a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site at Georgia Tech University for the summers of 2006-2008. The program director is David Collard who is assisted by co-PI Cameron Tyson. Ten students each summer will participate in a diverse array of projects in analytical, biological, inorganic, organic, physical, and polymer chemistry. Other components of the program include regular group meetings, a seminar/workshop series (ethics, presentation skills, graduate opportunities, research frontiers), research symposia and field trips to industrial and government laboratories, and includes joint activities with other summer research programs on campus. A primary focus of the proposed program is to target the enrollment of substantial numbers of women and underrepresented minority students and to provide them with tools and encouragement to embark on graduate studies. The program will culminate in a Student Research Symposium, where students will present research posters.
