A session titled "Dealing with Critical Periods (Floods and Droughts)", will take place at the Conference on "Managing Water Related Conflicts: The Engineer's Role", organized by the Engineering Foundation, to be held on November 5-10, l989, in Santa Barbara, California. The purpose of the session is: a) to develop and document practical strategies for the introduction of conflict management into the procedures used in dealing with extreme hydrologic events, floods and droughts; and b) to produce guidelines for informing engineers and scientists on decision-making theory and practice.
