This award is made under the high performance connections portion of ANIR's "Connections to the Internet" announcement, NSF 98-102. It provides partial support for two years for a DS-3 connection to the vBNS. Applications include scientific and medical imaging, digital mammography, interdisciplinary computational simulation research, High Definition Television, animated visualization of electric and magnetic activity of the human brain; a micromechanical model for understanding the mechanisms of defect generation and propagation in crystals; and establishment of an Autonomous Oceanographic Sampling Network. Collaborations include the Air Force Research Laboratory, NASA Lewis Research Center, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, University of Houston, Ohio State University, University of Illinois at Urbana, Stanford, the Brain and Behavior Laboratory at Simon Fraser University, and others.
