An award has been made to the University of Iowa under the direction of Dr. Ann F. Budd to computerize the University of Iowa Paleontology Repository, a collection of over one million fossil specimens. The collection includes invertebrate, vertebrate and plant fossils from all geological ages, with especially rich collections of marine invertebrates from the Paleozoic. Many of the specimens were new to science at the time of discovery. The database work will capture data from the specimens and make the information and images of some specimens available through an online, searchable web site. Undergraduate and graduate students, and museum interns, will work on the project and receive training in museum curation and database methods. The images produced in the project will be valuable to teachers and amateur paleontologists.
