This award supports the acquisition of a benchtop MALDI/TOF Mass Spectrometer. The instrument will support a variety of research projects in areas of low-volatility compounds such as proteomes and proteins. The instrument will impact several research areas at the university, including catalysis, biochemistry, and materials science.

The mass spectrometer will benefit graduate and undergraduate research. It will also benefit the teaching curriculum by integrating a practical instrument component into spectroscopy classes and laboratory courses for undergraduate and graduate students. The students who use the instrument will improve their future competitiveness and career options after their academic studies.
