A grant has been awarded to Washington University under the direction of Dr. Tyrone Daulton to acquire an advanced analytical field emission scanning electron with high-spatial resolution electron beam lithography capabilities. The instrument will be part of a Center for Materials Innovation and will be used by researchers in biology, chemistry, geology, and materials science. The instrument will benefit eight proposed research activities, including developments of nanostructured devices, investigations of heavy metal remediation, studies of nanostructure of bone, and controlled growth of nanostructured materials using copolymers. The instrument will be used in student research, with specific outreach efforts to include underrepresented groups in science and mentor them for future careers as science professionals.
