An award has been made to Colgate University under the direction of Dr. Krista Ingram to acquire a quantitative PCR instrument and other equipment for a genomics facility. The instruments will further the research of faculty in the areas of evolution, ecology, and molecular biology. The investigators will use the instrument to measure gene expression in marine organisms, to study the relationship of ant behaviors to gene expression, and to assess the influence of various genes on the development of bacterial biofilms. The PCR device will be used in the undergraduate research program. All four investigators on the grant are women, and the instrument will advance their career and research opportunities.
