The Association for Women in Mathematics NSF Travel Grant Program supports the travel of women mathematicians to actively participate in domestic or foreign research conferences, longer term visits to work with a mentor, as well as the travel of women in math education research to present their work at mathematical conferences. A total of approximately one hundred and twenty regular travel grants and twenty mentoring travel grants are awarded over a three-year period. All awards are determined on a competitive basis by selection panels consisting of distinguished researchers appointed by the AWM. An assessment of the results of these travel/mentor awards is done annually. The primary goal of the AWM-NSF travel program is to support mathematical research of women. The program enhances research activities, dissemination of results, professional contacts and visibility, and advances careers of women mathematicians. It also promotes interaction and collaboration between mathematicians and math education researchers.
