9353846 Bortz Carnegie Mellon University seeks to provide a six-week, residential, Young Scholars program in engineering and applied science for 52 students entering grades 11 and 12. Participants spend half time in project groups, either in one of the three NSF Centers of Excellence, or in writing science and technology magazine for children. Other activities include classroom discussions, field trips, and hands-on laboratory activities.
