The proposal for this project was received in response to the Nanoscale Science and Engineering Education initiative, NSF 05-543, category NUE, and it is being funded through NSF's Division of Undergraduate Education. The project is expanding the existing reach of the college's Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (N&N) program beyond chemistry, biochemistry and physics to include environmental science and geology. An additional Special Topics in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology is being developed to go with the existing Introduction to Nanoscience and Nanotechnology course. Finally, interdisciplinary nanoscience research opportunities for undergraduates are being expanded, and a collaboration with the Arts Departments is being initiated.

Some broader impacts of the proposed work come from the efforts that this NUE team are making to disseminate their curriculum developments broadly. In addition, the innovative collaboration with the Arts departments helps to educate and inspire students, teachers and the general community about the present and future of nanoscale science and technology.
