This award provides funding for a 3 year standard award to support a Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) in Engineering Site program at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) entitled, "Chicago Science Teacher Research (CSTR) Program," under the direction of Dr. Andreas A. Linninger. This is a renewal of a previously supported three year RET Site.

The CSTR program is an initiative by the faculty of three UIC Colleges in a strategic partnership with the Chicago Public School authorities and industrial interest groups to address the need to engage in-service teachers in emerging technologies and cutting edge research in the areas of bioengineeing and nanotechnology, as well as chemistry and the environment. The RET Site program will be held each summer for 7 weeks offering interdisciplinary projects in existing UIC research laboratories for 10 RET fellows each year for a period of three years. The follow-up program formed around regular events will include Summer and Fall RET Conferences under the auspices of the Chicago Public School authorities as well as follow-up visits of faculty to participating K-14 schools.
