9752989 The project is based on the characteristics of a previous successful mathematics program for girls. The PI will make personal contact with the directors of exemplary projects and make on-site visits to identify activities and approaches that will be transferable to the North Alabama region and culture. Project activities include: (1) Career Fair Days - on-site activities as well as the project s web-site; (2) School visits by women involved in SEM professions; (3) Field trips to technical work places; (4) Mentorship - in person, via e-mail, and using the Internet; (5) Tutoring - in person, via e-mail, and using the whiteboard capabilities of Netscape; (6) Teacher Workshop and electronic mailing list. The PI will use technology whenever appropriate to extend the scope and effectiveness of the project.
