This awards supports a U.S.-Korea Workshop on Understanding Bioenvironmental Complexity, to be held in August 2006 in Seoul, Korea. The co-organizers are Hoang Pham, Department of Industrial Engineering, Rutgers University, and Domyung Park, School of Public Health, Seoul National University (SNU). The workshop will bring together researchers from the United States, Korea, and other Asian nations who are interested in how risk factors combine to affect human ageing and lifespan. Such an integrated approach requires confronting issues broadly covered by biocomplexity. A small group of invited speakers will introduce key concepts in bioenvironmental complex systems such as: algorithms for modeling complex dynamic systems; modeling and control of complex systems in complex environments; and computational approaches to dynamics systems and complex environments. The U.S. participants will include junior scientists, graduate students, and an undergraduate student. Workshop results will be disseminated through proceedings and a website.
