OISE-0706230 MOLNAR, P. - University of Colorado, Boulder China-USA Workshop: Evolution of Asian monsoon and desertification and growth of the Tibetan Plateau
This workshop will bring scientists from the United States with expertise in climate dynamics, paleoclimatology, and geology, to meet with their Chinese counterparts to discuss the interaction of high terrain in Asia with atmospheric circulation and climate dynamics in the context of the tectonic history of the region. The workshop is set for January 7-9, 2007 in Sanya, Hainan, China. The U.S. PI is Dr. Peter Molnar of the University of Colorado, Boulder and the Chinese counterpart is Professor AN, Zhisheng of the Institute of Earth Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Xi'an, China.
This workshop will advance knowledge across disciplines and especially between U.S. and Chinese scientists on the meteorological aspects of the interaction between Tibet and regional climate. The international collaborations expected to originate from this meeting, and the workshop's potential to catalyze research among young scientists, are significant. Five early career scientists and graduate students will participate in this event.
