This project will support travel of 25 U.S. scientists to Bangalore, India to attend the 11th Congress of the International Union for the Study of Social Insects (IUSSI) to be held August 5-11, 1990. The Congress is held once every four to five years, and is the only international forum devoted exclusively to research on social insects, an important group of organisms that serve as excellent models in many fields of biology, and is a dominant life form in the faunas of many regions. The topics cover genetics, physiology, behavior, population biology, ecology and systematics. Participants come from over 30 countries. Scope: This is the first major conference on the topic to be held in India and will provide U.S. scientists with and opportunity to open new dialogues with Indian scientists and to initiate plans for joint research.
