The primary objective of this conference is to bring representatives of the United State's engineering community together with counterparts from Central and Eastern Europe to discuss the likely opportunities and effects of engineering and technology infrastructure growth on the economic development of these countries. The meeting will be held June 4-6, 1991, in Budapest, Hungary, and hosted by the Hungarian Academy of Engineering. Among the topics addressed will be future policies necessary to foster harnessing engineering and technology for economic advancement; related private and public sector roles; and development of infrastructure, including technical education and international exchange. Representatives of other European countries belonging to the Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences will also contribute to the dialogue; proceedings will be published with a summary of conclusions and recommendations.
