A planning meeting will be held to determine if the University of Texas San Antonio will join the existing I/UCRC for Wireless Sensor Networks. Wireless sensor networks are rapidly emerging as an important research area; they are composed of a large numbers of distribute, connected, and coordinated nodes that have revealed vast potential in a plethora of applications. These applications include computer networks, wireless mobile communications, encryption, information security and privacy, algorithms and data structures, graph theory, information and game theory, data storage and coding, optimization theory, and computational learning.

The proposed site is the gateway for a new generation of advanced sensors created by fusing the university communication with the Medical Center, Southwest Research Institute and others focusing on innovative research in the security of wireless and sensor networks and the tradeoffs between security and performance.
