The Oceanographic Society intends to publish a special issue of focusing on the interRIDGE initiative to highlight the expertise of the diverse international community that contributes to the field. It will consist of 9 full length articles covering the areas of ecosystems, origin of life, fluid chemistry, mineralization, and others. Four shorter articles will be included on areas such as the 30th anniversary of the discovery of hydrothermal vents systems. The broader impacts of the proposal include a continued education of both scientists and non-scientists in the area of the ridge formation, fluid movements, and biological life. It will also enable scientists to enhance their knowledge in areas outside their expertise in hopes to form cross-disciplinary communication and collaboration.
