Intellectual Merit: This research combines major geochemical database operations for the marine geosciences at the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University into a fully integrated management system called the Geoinformatics for Geochemistry Program. The work allows the combined efforts to build on substantial synergies between the presently disparate efforts. It will enhance interoperability of the present web accessible database and allows the program to achieve both sustainability and economies of scale in terms of staffing, education and outreach, and staffing.

Broader Impacts: Broader impacts of the work are to enhance the infrastructure for research in the marine geosciences and allow fundamental new understandings in the Earth and Ocean Sciences due to the ease of combining and visualizing various disparate data sets. The new management structure allows universal public and scientific access to global data compilations that support research and education in the Earth and Ocean Sciences.
