The PI will conduct a detailed study of the seismicity and tectonics of the Juan de Fuca plate system. The plate offers a unique synergy of oceanic plate boundary (ridges, transforms, subduction) and intra-plate (Gorda) tectonic targets that can be effectively investigated using high-quality seismic data recorded at close-by coastal broadband seismographs. This project builds on experience gained from the PI's previous investigations that unraveled the current Explorer region tectonics and provided the highest resolution long-term study of an entire oceanic transform fault system, the Blanco Transform Fault Zone (BTFZ).

The broader impacts of this work are its contributions to education and the broader scienfic community. The PI will incorporate granduate and undergraduate students in the project. Additionally, the results will likely benefit the proposed Regional Cabled Observatory science.
