The GEOTRACES Program has adopted the sampling and sub-sampling system utilized by investigators from the University of Hawaii and Florida State University for their CLIVAR Repeat Hydrography trace metal work. To ensure the newly constructed GEOTRACES rosette sampling system can yield contaminant free seawater samples, the scientist propose to take their system on the GEOTRACES intercalibration cruises and assist with the evaluation and development of the programs sample acquisition, handling, and storage protocols. In addition, they plan to validate seawater iron measurements using high-resolution isotope dilution inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry following magnesium hydroxide coprecipitation.
As regards broader impacts, one postdoc from the University of Hawaii and one postdoc from Florida State University would be supported and trained as part of this project.
