This grant provides partial support for young physicists to attend either of the two sequential 47th Rencontres de Moriond conferences to be held in La Thuile, Italy: (1) Electroweak Interactions and Unified Theories (March 3-10, 2012) and (2) QCD and High Energy Hadronic Interactions (March 10-17, 2012). The Moriond meetings in 2012 are transitional since, besides experimental results to be reported from U.S.-based CDF, D0, PHENIX and STAR, new results will be presented from the extensive running of the LHC Experiments (ALICE, ATLAS, CMS and LHCb) in which the U.S. scientists play a major role. Moriond remains a unique and excellent opportunity to both advertise the impressive U.S. science program in particle physics and at the same time to give our most talented young scientists extra visibility by allowing them to deliver their latest results at these two major European forums. Special efforts will be made to encourage women and minorities to participate.

Project Report

The porpose of the annaul Rencontres de Moriond Meetings has been to discuss current findings and ideas in high energy physics. The main goal of this grant was for partial support for US scientists to attend annual Rencontres de Moriond Conferences on: (1) ELECTROWEAK INTERACTIONS AND UNIFIED THEORIES, and (2) QCD AND HADRONIC INTERACTIONS AND HIGH ENERGY HADRONIC INTERACTIONS. The 47th Rencontres de Moriond Conference on ELECTROWEAK INTERACTIONS AND UNIFIED THEORIES will be held in La Thuile, Italy, March 3-10, 2012. The 47th Rencontres de Moriond on QCD AND HIGH ENERGY HADRONIC INTERACTIONS will be held in La Thuile, Italy, March 10-17, 2012. Due to various delays, a portion of funds were extended to be used for 2013 and 2014 Moriond Conferences. The meetings in 2012-2014, as in the past, have provided fruitful interactions between various international communities and institutions by bringing together a small number of scientists. It has been a success in encouraging and supporting young US HE physicists to continue to participate in these annual meetings. All presentations by US participants were well received. Moriond conferences are among a few major venues in our field. Most of the current experimental groups target Moriond as the first conference of the year where new results are reported. In 2012-24, the highlight went to the discovery of higgs and their final definitive confirmation.
