Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services State Public Health Laboratory Project Abstract for FOA PAR-20-105 Laboratory Flexible Funding Model Discipline B (Chemistry): Track 2 Human Food Testing Purpose: The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) State Public Health Laboratory (MSPHL) seeks FDA cooperative agreement funding opportunity to improve food testing surveillance programs through the chemical analysis of food products. The test results generated by these laboratories can be used to remove adulterated food from commerce and aide regulatory inspection programs in conducting investigations. The goals and outcomes of this cooperative agreement include the following: 1. The MSPHL will test for toxic metals analyses to ensure compliance with toxic element action levels. 2. The MSPHL will perform allergen testing for spices for cross contamination. 3. The MSPHL, in support of state manufactured food regulatory programs (MFRPS), will conduct analyses of targeted food samples. 4. The MSPHL and FDA capacity to protect the safety of the food supply will be increased and public health will be further enhanced. 5. Increased sharing of laboratory results generated under the scope of laboratory accreditation will promote earlier identification and regulatory response to adulterants in the food supply. 6. This project will strengthen and improve the collaboration of surveillance testing activities between the FDA, the Missouri MFRPS, and the MSPHL 7. Advancement of a nationally integrated food safety system. Page 1 of 1
