The research program involves a systematic epidemiologic and physiologic evaluation of syncope and blood pressure homeostasis in an elderly, institutionalized population. The educational component will include the expansion of geriatric modules in the undergraduate Harvard Medical School Introduction to Clinical Medicine course to all Harvard teaching hospitals as well as the development of a postgraduate long-term care rotation for internal medicine residents at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center for Aged (HRCA). Closely linked with the educational program will be clinical responsibilities at the HRCA, Brigham and Women's Geriatric Assessment Clinic, and Beth Israel Hospital Medical and Geriatric Services where students, interns, residents, and fellows will be supervised by the applicant. The very substantial clinical and research resources of the Division on Aging will be available to the applicant to assure successful attainment of the goals of this award.
