This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This study was designed to evaluate changes in endothelial and diastolic function in relation to overall exercise performance in men and women with Type 2 diabetes. One major question we are hoping to answer is whether Type 2 diabetes more adversely affects the circulatory system and exercise capacity in women than in men. Secondarily, we will also determine if exercise training can restore endothelial and diastolic function as well as exercise capacity in women and men and if these changes are greater in women than men with Type 2 diabetes.
