This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
The specific aims of this study is twofold. First, we want to establish normative data for the neurodevelopment, at one year of age, for paients who have undergone the Norwood procedure. Second, we want to compare the neurodevelopment of patients who underwent the Norwood procedure utilizing circulatory arrest versus those who underwent the Norwood procedure utilizing regional cerebral perfusion. Each year, 50-60 Norwood operations are performed at Children's Hospital. We believe that 50% of these families will return for the developmental evaluation. We estimate that a sample size of 29 patients per group is required to observe a treatment effect and that it will take 2-4 years to reach out goal.
