This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The hypothesis underlyinlg this proposal is that pediatric patients with diagnoses of ulcerative colitis (UC), indeterminate colitis (IC) and Crohn colitis (CC) may have small bowel involvement that has not been previously detectable using barium contrast radiography and endoscopy of the terminal ileum. Wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE) will allow a more complete determination of the extent of intestinal involvement, potentially leading to reclassification of the diagnosis from UC or IC to Crohn disease, and likely altering therapeutic decisions in patients with UC, IC and CC.
