The overall goal of this SBIR project is to identify and develop new computer tools, integrated with PROPHET, to support the clinical research process at NIH sponsored General Clinical Research Centers (GCRC's). Phase I used a series of telephone interviews and site visits to perform an assessment of the computing needs of the GCRC's. A high-level design concept was developed for: """"""""ClinCap,"""""""" new front-end software for PROPHET that responds to many of the needs that were identified. """"""""ClinCap"""""""" is an innovative tool for clinical data capture that makes it easy for investigators to computerize their study data, while also prompting data quality, data interchange, and training in clinical data management. """"""""ClinCap"""""""" will extend the distributed computer environment of PROPHET (now based solely on UNIX work stations) to permit data entry and editing on PC's and Macintosh work stations as well as with automatic transfer of the data into PROPHET files. The principal goal of Phase II is to accomplish the detailed design and implementation of """"""""ClinCap"""""""" as a new application for PROPHET and to evaluate and improve the software through deployment and use in the GCRC community. This work will be carried out in collaboration with several key individuals in the GCRC PROPHET community, identified during Phase I, who have expressed strong interest in collaborating on the further development of """"""""ClinCap"""""""".
