This project will create NHLBI COVID-19 common data elements and consensus outcomes to harmonize data practices across NHLBI and other COVID-19 studies. We will start with harmonizing data across two large NHLBI acute care clinical trial networks (PETAL, SIREN), and iterate, integrate, and promote these data harmonization standards with other COVID-19 research groups, including the international REMAP-CAP platform trial and other NIH institutes.
This project will aid combining of data between COVID-19 studies, by establishing common standards on how to measure key data points (common data elements), and what to measure (consensus outcomes) in COVID-19 patients and studies. It is important to have common data standards to allow combining data from multiple studies. By combining data, scientists can provide the most rigorous answers to key questions about COVID-19, such as which treatments work best and the epidemiology of the disease.
