The Oregon Department of Agriculture's (ODA) Laboratory Services objective is todevelop, implement, achieve and maintain ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation in supportof the department's Manufactured Food Regulatory Program Standards (MFRPS).The laboratory provides analytical support as the primary servicing laboratory forconducting microbiological and chemical food analyses for the State's ManufacturedFood Regulatory Program performed by the Oregon Department of Agriculture's FoodSafety Division. In order to be fully compliant with MFRPS, the laboratory must achieveand maintain ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation.Accreditation will be achieved by performing gap assessments against the ISO/IEC17025:2005 standards and incorporating Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gapanalyses in the development of action plans and improvement plans to address therequirements. Periodic assessments will be performed during implementation to assureprogress towards meeting requirements. Staff will be trained on requirements initiallyand periodically thereafter to maintain knowledge and assist with identifiedimprovements. The laboratory will participate in proficiency testing programs todemonstrate ability to perform testing. A written quality management system will beproduced compliant to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard covering management andtechnical practices.The laboratory will request a third party audit against the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standardas the final step in achieving accreditation. Upon receipt of accreditation the laboratorywill work to maintain accreditation and enhance scope as needed to meet Food Safetyconcerns.The process developed and implemented will be one of continual system review, trainingof staff on improvements, scientific and technical advances, participation in proficiencytesting programs, periodic third party accreditation audits, and discussion with FoodSafety Partners.
Oregon Department of Agriculture's Laboratory Services provides food analyses in the areas of microbiology and chemistry for the State's manufactured food regulatory program. ISO/IEC 170925:2005 laboratory accreditation will enable the laboratory to supply results in conformance with MFRPS 10 as well as providing data in support of a nationally integrated food safety system.
