This project has focussed on the analysis of amino acid and DNA sequence data as it pertains to molecular biology and molecular evolution. Continuing areas of interest include: The development of computational tools for molecular biologists. We developed a complete set of improved sequence comparison tools for molecular biologists which are being widely distributed. We have made an algorithmic breakthrough in the problem of multiple sequence alignment and are developing practical implementations We are developing more-powerful and flexible pattern matching tools for use in data base searches and in the analysis of sequence/structure relationships. We are working closely with the National Library of Medicine in their efforts to facilitate connections among the data in molecular biology data bases, to improve the useability of these data, and to provide a wide variety of supported, computational tools to the biologists on the NIH campus.
