Gates, Ann Q. University of Texas at El Paso Summer Southwest Regional Cyberinfrastructure Workshop
Funds are requested to hold one workshop during the August to September 2007 timeframe with approximately 25 to 30 participants (2 invited instructors; 2 local instructors; 5 regional scientists; 9 local scientists) and 10 students. The request includes funds for planning, food, travel, and evaluation support.
The objectives of the workshop are to: . Promote awareness of the role of CI in conducting research and . Engage scientists on the use of tools in support of CI based tasks.
The expected outcomes of the workshop will be a: . Report on the assessment of the workshop, participant's experience and reactions, and identification of scientist needs and difficulties when using both Kepler and WDO-It in support of cyberinfrastructure tasks and . Experience in running more extensive workshops (e.g., in coordination with the GEON Summer Institute for Geoscientists) that includes a broader audience. The funded activity will include assessment and evaluation to examine the usability of UTEP's WDO It tool, the quality of the generated abstract workflows, and the value of the workshop.
