The IEEE International Symposium on Dynamic Spectrum Access Networks (DySPAN) will be held in Aachen, Germany from May 3 to May 6, 2011. This proposal requests funds to support 10 graduate students in the United States to attend this conference. Participated students will have the opportunity to present their work, attend panel and keynote sessions, and interact with hundreds of other leading researchers in the field. This is an extremely important part of the graduate school experience. The support provided enables the participation of students who would otherwise be unable to attend DySPAN 2011. The project will also promote diversity by encouraging and enabling women and underrepresented minorities to participate.
This project supported the awarding of nine travel grants, in the amount of $1500 each, to US-based graduate students, enabling these students to attend a research conference. The conference, the IEEE International Symposium on Dynamic Access Networks (DySPAN) is one of the most important and prestigeous research events covering both technical and policy aspects surrounding dynamic spectrum access, a critical technology for future wireless networks. The conference is widely attended by both researchers and practitioners in the field. The 2011 conference was held in Aachen, Germany from May 3 to May 6, 2011. Attendance at this event enabled these students to interact with top researchers from around the world and to learn from attending panel discussions, keynote presentations, tutorials, poster sessions, and technical sessions. Many of the participating students (7 of the 9) also had the opportunity to present their own graduate research to other conference attendees. Participating in such conferences is critical to the professional development of graduate students, enabling them to cultivate research collaboration with experts from around the world, learn about cutting-edge concepts, technologies, and approaches, and obtain feedback on their own work. The nine students who received these travel grants represented six different US universities. Three of the nine were women.
