Dr. Irene Fonseca, The Center for Nonlinear Analysis (CAN) at the Department of Mathematical Sciences of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg and the Dr. Raul Manasevich, Departamento de Ingenieria Matematica (DIM) and the Centro de Modelamiento Matematico (CMM) at the Facultad de Ciencias Fisicas y Matematicas, University of Chile, are organizing two workshops, one in Pittsburgh and the other in Santiago, on partial differential equations. The aim of this project is to further develop and strengthen the research and training interaction between these two groups. Participants to both workshops will include researchers from neighboring institutions in the U.S. and Chile with which there is already a history of research interactions, as well as a small number of outside international experts. Co-support is provided by the Division of Mathematical Sciences.

A key objective of this activity is to engage graduate students and postdocs in an exchange of ideas and networking in preparation for careers in mathematics.
