The goal of this research project is to develop efficient and practical methods for the management, measurement, and visualization of privacy in computer systems and networks. The approach consists of: designing a framework for protecting sensitive information in online transactions; formulating quantitative measures of the effort required to infer individual private information from statistical aggregate data; and visualizing the private information disclosed in online activities as well as threats to privacy. The linked educational effort addresses the teaching of privacy concepts in introductory computer science courses. The results of the project enable the deployment of Internet applications with strong privacy assurance for users and service providers. These results are disseminated on the project Web site (www.ics.uci.edu/~goodrich/projects/privacy/).
