The U.S. Department of State, Overseas Building Operation (DOS/OBO) provides assistance to the National Science Foundation, Office of Polar Programs (NSF/OPP) for the implementation of required security upgrades to the U.S. Antarctic Program facilities in Christchurch, New Zealand. These services are provided on a cost-reimbursable basis through a memorandum of agreement between NSF and DOS.
The security upgrade activities to the Christchurch facilities include the installation or implementation of:
. Hardline walls, . Forced entry doors and windows, . Forced entry grilles for windows and HVAC ducts, . Public access control, . Non-breakable or shatter-resistant windows, . Safe haven/safe areas for personnel, . Protected generators and/or emergency lighting. . Surveillance and monitoring technical equipment
This funding of $317,600 will reimburse DOS/OBO for the costs associated with international travel to New Zealand and the technical security systems installation. The technical security systems include the video surveillance systems and other remote monitoring equipment required to meet Department of State overseas building standards.
