Abstract

African American men and women with central obesity and impaired glucose tolerance or mild NIDDM will be recruited, screened for medical contraindications, undergo baseline measurements, and be randomized to either an intensive treatment or a conventional treatment group for 1 year. All participants will be reevaluated at 4-month intervals for 1 year.
