This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.During the year, the single crystal XAS setup was further enhanced, and used for several experiments on BL9-3. The instrument consists of a Huber kappa goniometer, mounted on low-profile Thompson rails, which enables it to be easily slid into place for the single crystal XAS experiment and back out of the way for standard XAS or other setups. The setup has been improved through the installation of a new drive system for the sample positioning DC motors on the goniometer head, with motors under Blu-Ice instrument control. A small XY stage has been acquired to allow fine positioning of a scatter guard close to the sample, which should improve (i.e. reduce) the scatter background in the diffraction experiment.
