Studies of the cyclic AMP control system in Neurospora are proceeding to determine the function and mechanism of the control system in fungi and other eukaryotic cells. Planned studies include characterization of the properties of the regulatory subunit of the cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase and of a Mg 2 ion-dependent adenylate cyclase activity. These will be complemented by in vivo studies of the system through measurements of the control of endogenous cyclic AMP levels and the properties of cyclic AMP-deficient mutants.
