The specific aims of this application include quantitation of the number and duration of myocardial ischemic episodes required for collateral development, measuring the functional degree of collateralization that can be developed via treadmill exercise, determining coronary vascular flow distribution to the collateralized myocardium in the resting and exercise states and relating coronary vascular flow distribution with collateral anatomy in the pony. Surgically implanted Doppler flow probes, ultasonic dimension gauges, micromanometers and artery occluders are to be used for assessing functional collateral development. Radioactive microspheres and anastomotic indexing will be used to quantitate myocardial flow distribution and anatomical collateral developoment, respectively. It is suggested that the results of the propsoed studies in addition to previously published anatomical characteristics of the pony are vital components of the more long term objectives of discovering the mechanism responsible for triggering coronary collateralizaton. Surgery, physiology, engineering, physics and pathology are the disciplines possessed and used by the investigators and consultants involved with the study.
