Public Health Relevance

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets has a comprehensive food safety and inspection program. Support from FDA will enable the Division of Food Safety and Inspection (FSI) to conform with FDA's 2010 Manufactured Foods Regulatory Program Standards (MFRPS), expand the capability of inspection staff, support training, provide additional staff resources to support the Standards, and improve systems for auditing, data capture, and reporting. Conformance with the MFRPS will place the Department in a better position to share inspection information and data with FDA and States, which will improve our response to, and help to prevent the incidence of, food borne illnesses and food recalls.
