Public Health Relevance

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets has a comprehensive food safety and inspection program. Support from FDA has enabled the Division of Food Safety and Inspection (FSI) to reach full implementation with 9 of 10 of FDA?s 2016 Manufactured Foods Regulatory Program Standards (MFRPS) and full conformance with 9 of 10 standards, and expand the capability of inspection staff, support training, provide additional staff resources to support the Standards, and improve systems for auditing, data capture, and reporting. Conformance with MFRPS has placed the Department in a better position to participate in a national integrated food safety system, share inspection and sample information under a mutual reliance pilot and share data with FDA and other states, which will improve our response to, and help to prevent the incidence of food borne illnesses and food recalls.
