As the number of elderly in need of support grows, a mitigating factor in escalating health care costs is the proper application of technology. Indeed, part of the answer is to develop technological innovations that allow an elder population to successfully 'age in place' with dignity and a sense of involvement with their community, involving the elderly as part of the research team. This small grant will allow planning for initial research on this topic. The research team includes expertise in computer science (vision, robotics, human-computer interface) and social work (gerontology) and features various partnerships with government agencies.
